J.C. is a lawyer partner in the firm where Chrissy works. When Chrissy becomes her new secretary in the episode "Chrissy's New Boss", she starts to make Chrissy feel at ease, persuading her not to "have everything showing." Upon her initial meeting with her at the Regal Beagle, the roommates Janet and Jack, who was to meet a well known local restaurateur, Chef Anton there, mistakenly think that "J.C." was a man; thus, when Chrissy comes back from the law office the day before wearing a low cut sweater, they think the worst! Thus, at the Regal Beagle the next day, Jack also mistakenly thinks Chef Anton is J.C., and, out of outrage over what he thinks is Anton (who he thinks is J.C.) hiring Chrissy to be his mistress, pours beer over him!
In "The Catered Affair", J.C. stands up for the recently "fired" Chrissy at a dinner party thrown by the firm; it seems that J.C.'s boss and senior partner in the firm, Mr. Penrose, was trying to make advances towards her in his backroom office. When she refused, he tries to order J.C. to fire her when the roommates and J.C. work out a plan to try and get Chrissy's job back by using Chrissy to lure him by accepting his proposition only to get Mrs. Penrose to catch him redhanded!
